Forced conversions

Abductions, forced marriages, threats and legal pressure used to bring people into Islam, from Sindh to Sinjar. The pattern is old. Quran 9:29 orders war on the People of the Book until they pay the jizya "while they are humbled". In Sahih Muslim 1731, polytheist enemies are offered Islam, the tax or the sword. In Sahih al-Bukhari 25, Muhammad says he was ordered to fight people until they profess Islam. When the alternatives to conversion are humiliation or war, the choice is not free.
